THE DIGEST

All Of The Lights!

Credit Shelly Wiersma Slater

What a spectacular Northern Lights show over the weekend, seen as far south as Florida. A strong solar flare resulted in enhanced 'northern lights' visible across West Michigan. The storm could last into the next week, causing excitement on social media. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration issued a severe geomagnetic storm warning. Power and communication disruptions were possible. With all this action in the sky, is anyone else already thinking about the 4th of July and Coast Guard fireworks? 🎆

Grand Haven Jeep Fest returns this weekend

The Grand Haven Jeep Fest will take place on May 18, starting at 9 a.m. on Washington Street. There will be hundreds of Jeeps on display, including new and old models and newly released Jeep concept vehicles. Visitors can enjoy live music, food, drinks, and a vendor row with Jeep-related items. Activities include an obstacle course and family-friendly events. A highlight is the Jeep Show & Shine event for owners to compete for awards. Admission is free, with some activities requiring registration or tickets. Proceeds will benefit the Children's Advocacy Center of Ottawa County. If you’re a Jeep owner attending or driving around downtown GH be ready for plenty of Jeep waves going on. 👋

Local Asparagus is on the shelves

“We are so back!” The early start to the Michigan asparagus season, brought on by a warm winter, has resulted in thick and tender asparagus now being available in stores across the country. 100 farm families are dedicated to producing high-quality, sustainable Michigan asparagus, which is gaining popularity for its local production. Shopping for "Michigan Grown" labeled products supports local growers and meets the demand for healthier foods. By promoting the benefits of buying local, retailers can enhance their produce departments and appeal to a wide range of age demographics. This pasta recipe is our go to when it comes to eating local asparagus and is toddler approved!

LOCAL BUSINESS

Former Ottawa Beach Inn to be revived

Reservoir, a new Italian-focused restaurant, is opening in Holland following the listing of Playa Tacos and Tequila. The menu will feature seafood, pizza, vegetarian, and vegan options, serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner with late-night options. Reservoir aims to offer comfort food reminiscent of the closed Ottawa Beach Inn. The goal is to be open in late May.

New waterfront development in Norton Shores

Atwater Springs in Norton Shores offers luxury living with waterfront or water view homes in six unique models built by Dusendang Custom Homes. Holland Hospital expands to Saugatuck

A new Holland Hospital Medical Building has opened at 6490 Blue Star Highway in Saugatuck Township. The facility officially opened on May 13 with four primary care providers and services including primary care, physical therapy, lab services, and radiology. The building will eventually have space for up to seven providers.
