THE DIGEST
Half Of Local Roads In Muskegon County Blocked

Severe thunderstorms in Muskegon County caused significant damage, with downed trees and power lines blocking roads. Emergency Operations Center activated for cleanup and restoration efforts. Two injuries reported from fallen trees. Roads closed for debris and downed wires, with officials urging caution during cleanup. Fire crews assessing damage and working to clear roadways.
Kirk Park Offering Free Admission
Kirk Park in Ottawa County, MI has undergone renovations, including a new playground and restroom facilities. An open house will be held on June 27 from 4-6 p.m., with a scavenger hunt and popsicles. Motor vehicle permit fees will be waived from 3-7 p.m. due to a grant of $237,000 from the Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund. In total, $727,000 was invested in updating the park. Dogs are allowed off-leash on the south part of the beach from May to September. The park features wooden stairways leading to hiking trails along the sandy dunes.
Black River Brings Learning Outdoors

HOLLAND — When students and teachers return to Black River Public School in the fall, they’ll have a new learning space. BRPS is constructing a new outdoor learning environment in collaboration with the Outdoor Discovery Center Network. The space will feature outdoor classrooms and nature play areas and will be used by students of all ages. This initiative is part of a larger trend in the Holland area of enhancing outdoor education efforts. Other local districts, such as Holland Christian, Holland Public, Saugatuck, and West Ottawa, have also incorporated or are planning to add outdoor learning spaces to their schools.
