THE DIGEST
Wings Over Muskegon Returns

The Wings Over Muskegon Air Show will be held from August 9-11 at Muskegon County Airport, supported by Muskegon County and Norton Shores, and directed by the Yankee Air Museum. This year introduces a Friday Twilight Show featuring live music, lights, and pyrotechnics. The weekend will showcase various military and civilian aircraft, aerobatic performances, static displays, and the chance to ride in historic planes. Reviving the Muskegon Air Fair, which ran for 23 years until 2006 and attracted around 25,000 attendees last year, highlights include a U.S. Air Force A-10C, performances by an 11-time U.S. aerobatic champion, WWII aircraft, the MiG-17F, the Hooligans Flight Team, and the Misty Blues All-Woman Skydiving Team, along with the Smoke-N-Thunder Jet Truck. General admission is $25-$50; kids 15 and under enter free. Tickets, available online only, include VIP packages starting at $70. Learn more about the 2024 Wings Over Muskegon Air Show and purchase tickets here.
Free Beachside Astronomy Event In Holland
The Perseid meteor shower is expected to peak in the Northern Hemisphere on the night of August 12. It officially began on July 15 and is known as the best meteor shower of the year, with up to 90 meteors per hour during peak nights, according to EarthSky.
The Shoreline Amateur Astronomical Association (SAAA) is hosting a Meteors and S’mores event from 9-11 p.m. on August 12 at Holland State Park. The Delta Aquariids meteor shower may also be active during early August, but is less prominent in the Northern Hemisphere. Sky watchers should look for meteors from sunset to midnight, as the moon will rise around or after midnight. The SAAA will provide telescopes, and Holland State Park will supply s’mores. Participants are advised to bring chairs and blankets to the beach basketball court, located north of the concessions building.
First Look At Detroit Tigers Home Plate Club

The Detroit Tigers will unveil the Home Plate Club at Comerica Park in 2025, transforming the area behind home plate into a premium experience for fans. This exclusive club will offer VIP parking, a private entrance, a dedicated bar, concierge services, private restrooms, and fine dining options. Members can choose between plush infield seats behind home plate or lodge box seats overlooking the action. Ryan Gustafson, President and CEO of Ilitch Sports + Entertainment, emphasized the initiative aims to enhance fan engagement and cater to growing demand for exclusive seating. The location for the Club was previously designated for equipment storage and umpire facilities, but will undergo upgrades. In conjunction, plans entail upgrading the weight room for visiting teams and enhancing the umpire lounge. This development follows a series of enhancements at Comerica Park, including new LED field lighting, an upgraded sound system, and the largest scoreboard in the American League. Big Lots Closing In Holland
Holland's Big Lots is closing amid company-wide cuts, with discount signs visible since August 2. The Ohio-based retailer planned to close 35-40 stores but has now listed nearly 300 closures on its website. In Michigan, 10 stores, including locations in Kentwood, Portage, and Ypsilanti, are closing. Big Lots reported net losses for 2022, 2023, and early 2024, raising concerns about potential bankruptcy and its ability to continue operations.
