THE DIGEST
Oktoberfest In Frankenmuth

Frankenmuth Oktoberfest is back for its 34th year from September 19 to 22 at the Harvey Kern Pavilion in Heritage Park. The festivities kick off Thursday from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m., with the official keg tapping at 7 p.m. The event continues Friday and Saturday from noon to midnight and wraps up Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. Tickets are available at the gate: $10 per day Thursday through Saturday, with free admission on Sunday. Kids 15 and under can attend for free but must be with an adult. Vendors will offer food and drinks for purchase, accepting cash and credit.
Oktoberfest features authentic hofbräu beer, live bands, and fun events including wiener dog races. With its deep German roots, the festival aims to recreate the atmosphere of Munich’s Oktoberfest, complete with traditional entertainment and souvenirs. The festival is dog-friendly, but pets must be leashed and cleaned up after. Free parking is available, though overnight parking isn’t allowed, and there’s no free shuttle service. More info here. 🍻

LOCAL BUSINESS
Mr. Quick Closes In Norton Shores
Mr. Quick Restaurant has permanently closed its Muskegon location at 4190 Old Grand Haven Road, as announced in a Sept. 9 Facebook post. The brand, which originated in Moline, Illinois, in 1962, struggled with a 25% sales decline due to road construction and could not sustain operations. Local owners Dan and Luke McKinnon had hoped to revitalize the restaurant but ultimately decided to shut down after 46 months. The closure affects the community, with the McKinnons expressing disappointment over losing a local favorite. They plan to thank their loyal customers through social media.
Construction Of New Office Building In Holland
Lakeshore Advantage’s Next Center, a new 20,000-square-foot office building, is rising at the corner of Seventh Street and College Avenue in downtown Holland. Groundbreaking took place on August 31, 2023, and construction is on schedule, with plans for a move by the end of October. The center will serve as a business incubator, featuring a mural by local artist Chris Garcia, a green wall, and collaborative spaces. Lakeshore Advantage President Jennifer Owens highlighted the team’s dedication to fostering entrepreneurship in the community, with a ribbon-cutting event for investors planned in November.
