Electric Forest Begins

Electric Forest 2024 began with the annual Good Life VIP arrival pool party on Wednesday, June 19. The festival officially started on Thursday, June 20 at Double JJ Resort in Rothbury and will continue through Sunday. Festivalgoers in the Good Life Village arrived on Thursday morning and enjoyed the pool party, free food, and beer from Bell’s Brewery. The general admission and RV campgrounds have been steadily filling up since Tuesday. The weather was hot, with a heat advisory in effect. Music started playing on Wednesday afternoon from the RV campground. Electric Forest is produced by Madison House Presents and Insomniac Events.

Lonestar Tick Found At Kirk Park

A new tick species, the lone star tick, was discovered near Kirk Park in West Olive by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services earlier this month. Health officer Adeline Hambley stated that this tick is not commonly seen in Michigan and is native to the southeastern U.S. The Ottawa Department of Public Health is conducting surveillance in the area where the lone star tick was found. Hambley advises people to protect themselves by wearing bug spray, long pants, and checking for ticks on themselves, children, and pets after being outdoors in grassy or wooded areas. The lone star tick can spread illnesses, including Alpha-gal, a red meat allergy.

Cool Off Centers In West Michigan

West Michigan is currently under a week-long heat advisory from the National Weather Service. To help residents stay safe and cool off, local communities are providing various cooling centers. Here is a list of cooling centers in West Michigan, which will be updated by News Channel 3 as more information becomes available.

West Michigan Sports Complex

The West Michigan Sports Commission has received a $1.5 million donation from the Alro Steel Foundation for its $11.4 million capital campaign to renovate and expand the Meijer Sports Complex in Rockford. The donation will fund the new championship softball field, which will be named after Alro Steel. An additional $750,000 federal grant was secured by U.S. Rep. Hillary Scholten for the campaign. The Sports Complex has raised $8.7 million so far. Various improvements to the complex will include synthetic turf on the existing championship baseball field, resurfacing of the Nate Hurwitz Miracle Field, and the construction of new fields, pickle ball courts, a concession building, restrooms, storage facilities, a playground area, and canopies over bleacher seating.

Yoga At Waterfront Stadium For Mental Health

Body Haus Lifestyle Club will be hosting "Poses by the Pier" on June 21st at Lynne Sherwood Stadium in Grand Haven, Michigan. This family-friendly, all-ages, and all-inclusive event will feature a 60-minute yoga class led by instructor Mandy Johnson. Although the event is free to attend, donations to the charity partner, Mosaic Counseling, are encouraged. Mosaic Counseling provides accessible and affordable mental health services to the community, and yoga is known for its positive impact on mental health. "Poses by the Pier" aims to promote love, kindness, and compassion while supporting a worthy cause.
