Possible 21-Foot Waves Today With Gale Warning

Attention wave enthusiasts! Get ready to capture an awe-inspiring spectacle along the Lake Michigan shoreline, as the National Weather Service warns of waves reaching up to 21 feet! A gale warning is in effect from Wednesday night through Monday, with Thursday set to be the most dramatic. The southern region, south of Pentwater, could see the largest swells, while the north may witness impressive waves of up to 18 feet. Expect strong winds gusting up to 50 mph, along with rain in the southern area. Waves will start at 7 to 10 feet, building to 12 to 16 feet, with the chance for occasional 21-foot giants. As Thursday night arrives, conditions will start to calm, leaving peak heights around 12 feet. Friday may see occasional 18-foot waves, tapering off to about 13 feet overnight, with the weekend bringing smaller swells. Prepare for an extraordinary lakeside experience!
900 Frozen Turkeys For Thanksgiving
The Muskegon Rescue Mission (MRM), a leading provider of emergency shelter services in West Michigan, is seeking community support for its annual Turkey Drop to brighten the holiday season for families in need. MRM aims to collect 900 frozen turkeys for Thanksgiving meals, which can be dropped off at its Men’s Shelter on Nov. 20, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Executive Director Dan Skoglund emphasized that Thanksgiving is a time for community and gratitude, and MRM is committed to making a difference. The turkeys will be included in baskets distributed during the Thanksgiving Basket Giveaway, ensuring every family can enjoy a holiday meal together.
In addition to individual donations, MRM has partnered with Hazekamp’s Premier Foods, which will contribute 400 turkeys, as well as with Mel Trotter Ministries and Gateway Mission, to tackle hunger and homelessness in the region. Skoglund highlighted the growing need for food support this year. Those who cannot attend the Turkey Drop but wish to support it can make monetary donations online at muskegonmission.org/turkeydrop.
Warm Lake Michigan Hints At Winter Outcomes

Lake Michigan’s surface water temperature is currently 6.3 degrees above normal, significantly warmer as winter approaches. On November 17, NOAA reported an average surface temperature of 53.5 degrees— the highest recorded for that date since 2016 when it was 53.11 degrees. The long-term average for this date is 47.2 degrees, indicating that Lake Michigan has not cooled as quickly as typical over the past few months.
This unusually warm water could affect Lower Michigan's weather in two major ways. First, any cold air moving over Lake Michigan may be warmed by 5 to 10 degrees, possibly impacting air temperatures in Wisconsin. Second, there’s a potential for lake-effect snow, dependent on cold air from Canada moving south. However, if the warm conditions persist, significant lake-effect snowfall may not occur until later in December.

Manufacturing Facility Coming To Norton Shores
Rollon Corporation, a global automation manufacturer, is investing $16 million to build a 147,000-square-foot facility in Norton Shores, set to open in summer 2025. The new site will produce linear motion systems for various industries, including aerospace and medical equipment, and is expected to create up to 43 jobs.
