THE DIGEST
Balloon Days Festival 🎈

The Hudsonville Balloon Days festival will take place on June 21 and June 22 at the Hudsonville Fairgrounds. Parking is $10 cash, and the event will feature live music, food trucks, craft vendors, and family-friendly activities. There will be hot air balloon launches at 7 p.m. both evenings, followed by a balloon glow event. Attendees can bring chairs, blankets, coolers, and picnics, but alcohol is not permitted. A meet and greet with balloon pilots and crew will be held on Saturday at 5 p.m. Last year, high winds kept the balloons grounded. This year, 15 balloon crews are expected along with around 6,000 attendees each night. Organizers have increased the number of food trucks and vendors to accommodate the larger crowd. Arts and crafts vendors will also be present. Families can collect pilot trading cards and autographs at the event. You can find more information and the schedule of events here.
Root Beer Barrel In Douglas 🍺

A 16-foot tall handmade root beer barrel has been a landmark at the corner of Center and Ferry in Douglas since the 1950s. It offers root beer on tap and specialty hot dogs, open daily from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Located near the beach, it was originally founded by Joe Decker and Harold Kelly in 1952. The barrel closed in 1977 but was restored in 2010 by the Saugatuck-Douglas History Center and the community. It now operates as a popular spot for locals and visitors to enjoy classic food and drinks during the summer. Check their Facebook page for menu and updates.
Heat Wave Coming To An End Next Week 🔥
A heat wave will occur this week, with temperatures reaching 90 degrees or higher for five days. The hot air will be replaced by cooler temperatures after the weekend as storm systems from the Pacific Ocean move through northern U.S. and Great Lakes. A cold front is expected to pass through Michigan on Sunday or Monday, bringing temperatures back down to the 70s and 80s. There may be more heat waves in July and August. Michigan's weather pattern has been cyclical, with hot spells followed by cooler weather.
