THE DIGEST
Jingle Bell Parade

Every year, Grand Haven, Spring Lake, and Ferrysburg come together for the magical Jingle Bell Parade, taking place at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7, in downtown Grand Haven. This festive celebration features 80 illuminated floats parading from the county building parking lot to Central Park, where the annual Christmas tree lighting will occur alongside a carol sing. Attendees can enjoy lively performances from local marching bands, as well as special appearances by Santa and Mrs. Claus. The parade route will take participants west on Franklin, north on Harbor, and east on Washington to Central Park, where hot chocolate from the Salvation Army Canteen and candy from local businesses will be available. Before the parade, visitors can explore the Holiday Artist Trail, showcasing over 50 local artisans offering unique gifts, with participating shops marked by blue cones to encourage support for local talent over big box stores.
Possible $563K Grant To Clean Crockery Lake
Crockery Lake in Ottawa County, which has struggled with poor water quality for years, may receive a $563,000 grant from county commissioners to address the issue. The Ottawa County Finance and Administration Committee approved funding for Chester Township to improve the lake’s water quality, a decision awaiting final approval from the full board. However, the plan has faced criticism, with some arguing it could set a precedent for funding other lakes with similar issues, potentially leading to legal challenges. The funds are sourced from a special initiative using American Rescue Plan Act money. Projects will focus on preventing soil runoff, managing septic systems, and enhancing oxygen levels in the lake. Board Chair Joe Moss dismissed claims of setting a legal precedent. Commissioner Gretchen Cosby expressed hope that improvements at Crockery Lake could serve as a model for restoring other lakes in the county and beyond.

Taco Fiesta Closes In Holland
Taco Fiesta will permanently closed on Saturday, Nov. 30, following 33 years of serving the community. Owners Maria Martinez and Juanita Reyes expressed gratitude for the support they've received since opening in 1991. The restaurant, located at Lakewood Boulevard and 120th Street, is currently listed for sale at $475,000, with a sale expected in early December. Martinez-Cano, one of the owners' daughters, looks forward to spending more time with family post-retirement. The owners thanked their patrons, stating, "Taco Fiesta wouldn’t have been the same without you — or your appetites."
